Her Journey.
More than a century ago, a young and ambitious winemaker named Onofre Juliá Gomila embarked on a journey from his picturesque hometown on the island of Mallorca to the promising lands of Chile. Drawn by tales of the fertile Limarí Valley, with its unique microclimates nestled between semi-desert mountains, Onofre was determined to find the perfect place to cultivate the finest grape strains.
In 1905, Onofre settled in the charming town of Rapel, now part of the Monte Patria commune. With a heart full of dreams and a spirit of innovation, he began producing alcohol on land adjacent to the Rapel plaza. His passion and dedication bore fruit in 1915 with the creation of his first brand of Pisco, Juliá.
Central to this enduring legacy is the inspiration drawn from a strong and beautiful woman named Julia, Onofre’s muse and the heart of the Juliá family. Her grace and resilience are reflected in every bottle of Pisco crafted by the family-owned Pisquera Casa Juliá. Using the most aromatic Muscat of Alexandria and Pink Muscat grape strains, the result is a transparent distillate aged for over three years without wood, boasting a smooth finish.
“We wanted a name that connected to the land,” says Verónica Juliá, granddaughter of the visionary Onofre and a proud member of the Pisquera Casa Juliá company. The distillery, steeped in tradition and family pride, offers tours that take visitors through the artisanal production methods, where stills are fired directly over a wood fire and the distillation process is meticulously overseen by three master distillers.
